The Journey's Surprises

Just a few minutes ago, I found out that the very first record I did in a professional studio was engineered by one of the greatest rock producers/engineers in rock history. Before I tell you who it is, let me take you through the events.

I was helping my fiance clean her house as we are getting ready to move into a new home. As I was clearing out some boxes, I came across this CD. I didn't pay attention to the title or the artist, I just pretty much put it in my pocket and I'd look at it and listen to it later. You know how it goes when music lovers come across a full CD...you keep it!!!

So after I cooked dinner (hamburgers & fries, no big deal) and cleaned up the kitchen, watch Barack Obama make history on CNN and try to educate my future step-kids about what it means for Obama to be in his current position, I sat down to listen to the CD in the laptop. My lady is next to me editing the budget she created so we can at least get some gas, I mean it was a full evening so far.

So as I was listening to Human Clay by Creed, I started to read the credits. The name of the producer looked very familiar. I was thinking to myself, where do I know that name from? Then it hit me. Tallahassee, FL around 92-93, Flamingo Studios, where I budgeted, booked and rented the studio to have a demo made for my group Simply Divine. There I was recording with a young John Kurzweg, separating my instruments, getting levels right I mean the whole nine. My first real experience in a major studio. I was getting tips and tricks from this well traveled musician, engineer and producer.

I won't disclose how much I paid for his services, just trust that it's no where near what he may charge now. It's discoveries like this that keeps me encouraged. It's the discoveries while on the journey that make waiting for the destination worth while. I have talked to and worked with a few people here and there, but when I realize I am amongst the greats as I was coming up, it makes me feel like greatness is a part of my own destiny.

John, where ever you are right now, thank you for being a part of my development and thank you for getting my first demo right!!!

Oh and by the way, I always gave you the credit for your work!!!
